A proper partnership begins with a proper rate.

Our pricing strategy is a collaborative approach—tailored to the scope, style, and support your project deserves.

At Proper Proofreading, rates are customized for each project to ensure fairness and transparency. Estimates reflect word count, document complexity, formatting requirements, and turnaround time.

Standards and guidance we reference

  • National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) Transcript Format Guidelines. While the NCRA does not set rates, its formatting guidance influences page layout and final deliverables, which can affect pricing.
  • Court regulations. Federal and some state courts cap per-page rates for official transcripts, with different tiers for original and copy orders.
  • Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) rate guidelines to keep fees competitive and aligned with professional standards.

Turnaround options

  • Standard: 30-day delivery.
  • Rush: Expedited, next-day, or daily delivery available by request and subject to my current queue. Faster timelines are priced higher.

Service models and billing structures

  • Proofreading of legal transcripts: Quoted per page or per word, based on the required format and level of intervention.
  • Audio transcription: Quoted per audio minute or per audio hour. Industry ranges commonly span about $1.50 to $7.00 per audio minute, depending on speakers, audio quality, and timeline.

What affects your quote

Turnaround time, number of speakers, audio quality, specialized terminology, required formatting, and whether the deliverable is verbatim or lightly edited for readability.

Service distinctions

Proofreading rates differ from scoping rates. Scoping requires deeper intervention and is priced higher than proofreading.
